When one front door closes, another opens, to a brand new place.

— Yet another large-scale local remodeling project is taking wing. Buffalo Wild Wings is closing to do this mega-makeover at 11 p.m. Saturday, July 25, and reopen the following Thursday — when they invite you to join them for a brand new experience. These are what the sign on the front door calls, “exciting times.” It adds that for more information, “check with a team member,” because you don’t want to have to go too long without seeing your favorite sports team members in action. As it was, crews with lots of equipment were already on scene at 10:50 p.m. Saturday.
— It’s last call, literally, until fall. In another big change occurring this weekend, Guv’s Place in Houlton is using huge drink specials to celebrate its customer appreciation day, going strong all day on July 26. The previous day, and it just wouldn’t be Guv’s without this, is a beanbag toss tournament. Guv’s then plans to reopen in North Hudson in early October.
— Draft parties for things such as the NFL have been all the rage for the past few years, but now there are even pre-draft parties. At Buffalo Wild Wings, they note that all you have to do is give them a call, meet a couple of qualifications, and they’ll mail you a kit complete with draft boards, B-Dubs paraphernalia and special food offers so you can have your shindig there, (they add that they’ve been doing draft-related parties since they opened quite a few years back). Across the street, Green Mill also is having such parties, and offers a contest where you can win free bonus cards, large pizzas and wing samplers and soda for when you hold your party. There are of course lots of official rules listed, among them that your likeness, etc., can be used by Green Mill for promotional purposes, and if you really draft well, why wouldn’t you want to share that with the world?
— Based in Minneapolis, but having shared the stage with bigtime bands that hail from all over the place, Almost Famous plays the Willow River Saloon in Burkhardt on Friday, July 24. The band consists of past and present musicians from Austin Healy, Wicked Sensation, Rad Company and Thieves Carnival. Just formed, Almost Famous has opened for numerous national recording artists that have many different styles, such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Jason Aldean, Molly Hatchet, The Outlaws, Georgia Satellites, Marshall Tucker Band, Leon Russell, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Little River Band, Black Oak Arkansas, Blackfoot, Foghat, Loverboy and Quiet Riot.

Hey today they threw it all back to you, as it is election day, and with it the last Badger gasp — if least if they’re our candidates — (is that the throaty noise they make?), with a soar-throated, campaign-trail rasp made by an audio-version plethora of last-minute flyers that fill our boxes with hopes to grasp, so we can check their boxes when we go to the polls and pick a (partial) winner to move on to full November midterms. Less then the Trump-triumphed manhandling our mailboxes got however, in the last election of this type. Those worn, creaking...

When my niece got married, everyone knew the wedding was going to be as extravagant and elaborate as they do it down in Austin, TX, where she worked for a couple of years before deciding to go back and get her Master’s in Wisconsin, in either Madison or Milwaukee, quickly done mind you and then soon, and after a slightly postponed European honeymoon and an apartment found, start working as a social worker in one of those two areas. So you can see, there is a degree of impulsivity, although she was very certain in her choice of a mate...
Hey, those marketers I compete with, and not telemarketers as even I wouldn’t stoop that low no matter how financially addled and not from India, with their flyer of the day(s), are getting more creative. As far as again, their marketing. Case in point. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Subway. And not the mass transit kind that’s full to the gills Out East. The food chain one has great prices for a whole lotta food, and great specials too. So this is not completely sour grapes. But this one rubbed me the wrong way, like an old sauce...
As the months turned, this is the season for truck and tractor pulls, (and corn feeds, too, all around), and this time around moreso, the kids are all right and cooking and taking the reins, as this weekend in Hammond Heartland Days, in the heart and center of St. Croix County. To that early-in-statement end, there is a truck and tractor pull At The Days, but don’t diss or miss it, it is not necessarily for these huge hulksters seen on ESPN lunking things like a semi and than climbing (aboard) up the steps of a set of bleachers to...
At the GasLite Bar and grill grounds in Ellsworth will commence in style the fourth annual TRIMBELLE DAYS event, running Aug. 1 and 2, with a noon Saturday start slated for the tractor pull (registration begins 90 minutes earlier) featuring antique and farm stock and shortly afterward Eddie’s acoustic solo act with a 1-3 p.m. outdoor bar and a Sunday, UTV Ride at 11 a.m. That’s followed up in a like minded way by the Saturday, Aug. 8 Hogs For Heroes with a presentation of keys ceremony at 12:30 p.m. with a Wisconsin veteran recipient getting Back to The Road with the healing gift...
