Snoop Dogg doing his Tony The Tiger take while hawking Cheetos saved it. How you can win a fun and Fandango movie deal when bundling, sorta, with Subway, or score a walk-on role for a movie set in summer-of-love Paris or such. Details below, for a limited time, as these movies hit in July.

Hey, those marketers I compete with, and not telemarketers as even I wouldn’t stoop that low no matter how financially addled and not from India, with their flyer of the day(s), are getting more creative. As far as again, their marketing.

Case in point. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Subway. And not the mass transit kind that’s full to the gills Out East. The food chain one has great prices for a whole lotta food, and great specials too. So this is not completely sour grapes. But this one rubbed me the wrong way, like an old sauce gone, well, a bit sour. But if this is your thing …

To wit, you can go Fandango via the Subway station, scoring at the $15 level, to have a Moana party, and that invokes images of that big, one very bad mutha, the Mrs. character created by Tyler Perry, who apparently knows something about big and bad. Momma, mia. No wait, this is an overhauled Disney product with an upgrade.

But wait, you gotta enter a promo code to rock and roll. And psst, you can see Moana plus get a collectable cup, when you upgrade to any meal for a buck more. And you have to be a member, or join up with their named, rewards club. Suddenly, this Moana movie meal mocks of making money. Pissed off yet. There’s more.

They hawk the idea of getting all five “collectable” cups, but would that require five different visits, and subs and meals? Unclear. As they say in the fine print, restrictions apply and to learn more scan their code, or enter a 60-plus-character website/code, but what if you are restricted in your old age understanding of such technology? The dealers go on and on about who possesses what trademark, and I will give them credit for not revisiting that old tack of no purchase necessary — when in many other cases you don’t know about the deal unless, uhm, you make a purchase. Like when you have to look under the bottle cap you flip open in order to redeem the offer it describes.

What saves this as far as being cool, and we go back to trademarks, is the additional pairing with something they also sell, as part of their meal deals, and don’t you love synergy, Simply Cheetos Puffs White Cheddar Flavored. Say that five times (purchases?) fast. I think that cool cat, literally, holding up skyward a great big puff, (somewhat subliminal?), looks like Snoop Dogg, especially with the killer shades and trademark, high-top tennies. It’s just that a long tail replaces the dreadlocks. And hey, this beats Tony The Tiger, and they could be construed as great. (Wording changed slightly to not get a copyright strike.)

OK, I had some fun with them, but the movie has been out for almost a month, (they say limited time offer, or just see the movie below instead), so claim your deal while they last, especially if you plan to go all in and get all the collectable cups, and since the sub shown is stacked a more than three inches high, although likely embellished for sake of … appearances.

Or, to go a different route, you can rock ‘n roll into a small role, as in as a walk-on — maybe the size of a doughnut hole — in a Hallmark movie, to the tune of Paris Is Always A Good Idea, just started streaming. Hey, this whole idea seems good, extra or starring role. If came via a flyer packed with others of its ilk, and you have to enter and open and search through these various ones to find out how you win. So if you don’t get the flyer in your mailbox, you’re SOL. Go have a Hallmark cry. Or watch the Hallmark Movie Channel, as they obviously are affiliated.

So two deals on … two deals. As there were only two sheets of paper as fast food flyers in the mailbox, not the usual five. No wait, make that three as when counting in the housing double-truck flyer it came in, there was a duplicate BK ad.

As the months turned, this is the season for truck and tractor pulls, (and corn feeds, too, all around), and this time around moreso, the kids are all right and cooking and taking the reins, as this weekend in Hammond Heartland Days, in the heart and center of St. Croix County. To that early-in-statement end, there is a truck and tractor pull At The Days, but don’t diss or miss it, it is not necessarily for these huge hulksters seen on ESPN lunking things like a semi and than climbing (aboard) up the steps of a set of bleachers to...
At the GasLite Bar and grill grounds in Ellsworth will commence in style the fourth annual TRIMBELLE DAYS event, running Aug. 1 and 2, with a noon Saturday start slated for the tractor pull (registration begins 90 minutes earlier) featuring antique and farm stock and shortly afterward Eddie’s acoustic solo act with a 1-3 p.m. outdoor bar and a Sunday, UTV Ride at 11 a.m. That’s followed up in a like minded way by the Saturday, Aug. 8 Hogs For Heroes with a presentation of keys ceremony at 12:30 p.m. with a Wisconsin veteran recipient getting Back to The Road with the healing gift...
A snapshot from the hampered heartland. Where the music won’t play for days anymore. This just in, an old shack located at 1 Terra Parma in Indiana will cost you $2K a month to rent. Hey, you could get a mortgage, with such dirty deeds done dirt cheap. The good news is that it includes utilities; but there’s no AC. That old tack is an old joke, but the rest of this isn’t. To get there, you are bus riders on the storm, and it’s a bad one, as when the greyhound grey line is nearly full on a Tuesday...
In a recent Minnesota Twins game, there were, what, eight of them runs that were doubled as they are Twins, as the home team led 16-0 after five innings, as viewed at Hudson Tap. This is not U.S. football with a couple of two-point conversions, and certainly not futbal, though they televise a lot of soccer. If there ever was a reason to invoke the old high school baseball and softball mercy rule, it was time, and I had been on both sides of that many a time back in my playing days. (The other pro ball squad shortly afterward...
I wonder if they celebrated in Belgium like they did in the U.S., in advance, partying in the streets with maybe rioting coming later, prior to the win of the former over the latter in the mere — but still highly publicized, even here — quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup that would continue on for another two weeks or so, then bow out soon after killing the U.S. hopes. The Elite Eight, if I can borrow a term from NCAA basketball, can be a bitch. First term, not second one. Wait, isn’t that a political reference? Anyway, they are...
