Laughing all the way to go play cribbage and drink root beer whiskey, if the hypnotist prompts you to do so.
— The best things in life are free, but they can be downright hilarious when there’s no cover charge for a hypnotist/comedian. That is the case when Rick Turner puts on his show at the Village Inn in North Hudson on Friday, starting at 8:30 p.m. I asked bartender Sue, “Are you harder to hypnotize if you’ve been drinking?” Her response, “It’s probably easier.” Guess we’ll find out.
— Some things apparently are better done with two people than one. That’s the case with the cribbage tournament this Saturday, Jan. 10 at Dick’s Bar and Grill, as it has a doubles format that had attracted 17 duos — that’s 34 people — as of Tuesday night. There is a $10 entry fee, a cash prize for first, one free drink for all players and other perks such as gift cards for players. You can signup with your bartender for play that starts at 1 p.m.
— You can now buy Uncle Bob’s root beer flavored whiskey at Dick’s, and the flyer promoting it asks “have you seen Uncle Bob?” (Is he one of those funny uncles?) Right above his printed name is shown a fancy, handlebar mustache. Yeah, I think that guy has been around. His brew can even be made into a root beer float but adding horchata liqueur.
— A duo named the MTVs played the Smilin’ Moose lodge late in December, and their song selection was something that the music network could learn something from, as it went beyond the tried and true. They opened a set by playing Johnny Cash, followed by Twin Cities favorites Local H, then followed by Cake.

- The hearsay vote will be read by some as pure heresy, as Hermening spies the ‘country club crowd’ for how he can putt to quasi-greatness and quash Trump. Then in today’s election there’s a pro-life, run-of-the-mill muckadymuck, a Hong pro-education predictable, and a sharper than the average sheep Shannon (yes it’s a he.) THat’s what flyers tell us about the Day’s Of Our Lives. Today.
Hey today they threw it all back to you, as it is election day, and with it the last Badger gasp — if least if they’re our candidates — (is that the throaty noise they make?), with a soar-throated, campaign-trail rasp made by an audio-version plethora of last-minute flyers that fill our boxes with hopes to grasp, so we can check their boxes when we go to the polls and pick a (partial) winner to move on to full November midterms. Less then the Trump-triumphed manhandling our mailboxes got however, in the last election of this type. Those worn, creaking...
- This boutique is a hat corral, although not country, though there are those themes too. You can make your own at the new Custom Edit, or create them for many type of a party, also. Besides the coming ‘hat bar’ this is a one stop shop for women’s attire, accessories and gifts. This, Hudson’s newest boutique, has an Aug. 11 grand opening.
This boutique is a hat lover’s paradise, as far as a one-stop attire, especially for women, and accessories shop. The Custom Edit’s premier edition of eclectic merchandise includes a full array of dozens and dozens of signature baseball-style hats with adjustable bands in back, complete with wording you can help choose and logos and stitched-on decals too, positioned all around the store and on a full shelf that takes up much of a wall. If you want a unique way to support your child’s team or sport, they can help you design a hat with a special message like that...
- When they got hitched, in the long haul, it went off without a hitch or glitch. This wedding was The Big One, for me pre-empting that of Taylor Swift or the latest (re)marriage of one of the royals. Now, after these multinational nuptuals, off on a European honeym0on.
When my niece got married, everyone knew the wedding was going to be as extravagant and elaborate as they do it down in Austin, TX, where she worked for a couple of years before deciding to go back and get her Master’s in Wisconsin, in either Madison or Milwaukee, quickly done mind you and then soon, and after a slightly postponed European honeymoon and an apartment found, start working as a social worker in one of those two areas. So you can see, there is a degree of impulsivity, although she was very certain in her choice of a mate...
- Snoop Dogg doing his Tony The Tiger take while hawking Cheetos saved it. How you can win a fun and Fandango movie deal when bundling, sorta, with Subway, or score a walk-on role for a movie set in summer-of-love Paris or such. Details below, for a limited time, as these movies hit in July.
Hey, those marketers I compete with, and not telemarketers as even I wouldn’t stoop that low no matter how financially addled and not from India, with their flyer of the day(s), are getting more creative. As far as again, their marketing. Case in point. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Subway. And not the mass transit kind that’s full to the gills Out East. The food chain one has great prices for a whole lotta food, and great specials too. So this is not completely sour grapes. But this one rubbed me the wrong way, like an old sauce...
- Heartland Days stays true to the heart of its name and lets kids of all ages rule the roost. Photograph them and give them their due aND turn behind the wheel, with A garden tractor or FFA approved. There’s music, too, if you wait to the fest’s end, after the parade.
As the months turned, this is the season for truck and tractor pulls, (and corn feeds, too, all around), and this time around moreso, the kids are all right and cooking and taking the reins, as this weekend in Hammond Heartland Days, in the heart and center of St. Croix County. To that early-in-statement end, there is a truck and tractor pull At The Days, but don’t diss or miss it, it is not necessarily for these huge hulksters seen on ESPN lunking things like a semi and than climbing (aboard) up the steps of a set of bleachers to...
- Event announcement — Also running down south
At the GasLite Bar and grill grounds in Ellsworth will commence in style the fourth annual TRIMBELLE DAYS event, running Aug. 1 and 2, with a noon Saturday start slated for the tractor pull (registration begins 90 minutes earlier) featuring antique and farm stock and shortly afterward Eddie’s acoustic solo act with a 1-3 p.m. outdoor bar and a Sunday, UTV Ride at 11 a.m. That’s followed up in a like minded way by the Saturday, Aug. 8 Hogs For Heroes with a presentation of keys ceremony at 12:30 p.m. with a Wisconsin veteran recipient getting Back to The Road with the healing gift...
